Lisa obtained her master’s degree in counseling from Oakland University. Lisa’s experience includes working as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor for 8 years. Before this, she taught Psychology and served as an academic counselor for 12 years.
Lisa’s personal experience with blended families has given her additional insight into coping with family and relationship issues. Her considerable professional and teaching expertise enables her to integrate counseling techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Relaxation Techniques, Play and Art Therapy.
Lisa works with clients 14 and up. She particularly enjoys working with children and teenagers struggling with anxiety, social, self-discovery, self-esteem, and academic success; Childhood and adolescence represent crucial times for brain development and healthy thought patterns to be developed. She helps children to explore, understand, and find healthy outlets for their feelings. In addition, Lisa has her own blended family of 5 older teens and can relate and serve as a sounding board for the challenges that blended families face.
Lisa enjoys arts and crafts, skiing, biking, and baking. She is married with three children, two stepchildren, four cats, and a ferret.
