Claudia Schwenzer earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Michigan.
Claudia’s professional and personal expertise includes managing and treating anxiety symptoms and triggers, overcoming social anxiety and depression, and managing burnout resulting from chronic illness and pain management. She strives to utilize integrative therapy to ensure sessions and treatment plans work for a client’s personality and lifestyle; therapies include psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solutions-focused therapy, and Gestalt therapy. She works with clients ranging in age from teenagers to older adults.
Anxiety and burnout can be unrelenting. What starts as a small, passing thought or feeling can quickly become overactive thoughts, reactive emotions, racing heartbeat, restlessness, insomnia, mood swings, and more. These symptoms and thoughts seep into small and big decisions, relationships, work, hobbies, and routine activities. Claudia helps clients identify anxious thought and behavior patterns, helps them to accept emotions in the moment, and learn how to move forward. Claudia engages clients as an active participant in their own mental health healing by encouraging reflection and awareness, teaching coping strategies, and encouraging accountability to their emotional well being.
Claudia’s educational background includes diabetes research, management, and diabetes burnout treatment, as well as advocacy and education for affordable insulin. She is a proud supporter of the #insulin4all movement and its efforts. She has additional experience working with older adults living with dementia and their care partners, helping families work through the day-to-day tasks of caregiving and dementia care. In her personal life, she enjoys crafting, painting, sewing, and crochet. She manages her own 20-year diabetes journey alongside her (also diabetic) spouse.
