Therapeutic Biography

I specialize in helping adults who are stuck in their pain, whether from their past, their substance use, their relationships, their physical health, their jobs in healthcare, or their losses. I help people move forward by learning and creating new patterns, new coping skills, and better balance.

I’m a Licensed Social Worker with more than 20 years of clinical experience in mental health and substance use treatment. Over the years, I’ve worked in private practice, hospital systems, and family agencies, which has given me the opportunity to work with people navigating many different seasons and challenges in life.

Finding a Way Forward That Works for You

Sometimes you know exactly what brought you to therapy. Other times, you just know you’re unhappy, overwhelmed, or stuck. We can start there.

My style is straightforward, interactive, and supportive. I don’t believe therapy should feel like you’re doing all the talking while your therapist simply listens. I want to understand what life looks like from your perspective, help you recognize patterns and barriers that may be keeping you stuck, and work alongside you as you clarify your goals, establish healthier boundaries, and create real change.

I have particular experience working with healthcare professionals and understand the pressures that can come with caring for others while trying to take care of yourself.

If you’re living with chronic pain, a complicated medical condition, or an unexpected change in your health, therapy can provide a place to process what you’re experiencing while also helping you advocate for yourself and adjust to what life looks like now.

Substance use, addiction, and recovery are another important part of my work. I hold both the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) credential and Certified Clinical Supervisor credential. I understand that substance use rarely exists in isolation, and I’m comfortable helping clients address it alongside anxiety, depression, relationships, work stress, grief, and other concerns.

Making Space for Grief, Loss, and Change

I also have a special interest in grief and loss. Grief can come from the death of someone you love, but it can also follow the loss of a relationship, a hoped-for future, a career, your health, or the family you imagined having.

My own journey to motherhood through adoption has contributed to my interest in supporting people navigating adoption, fertility challenges, and reproductive loss. I understand that these experiences can hold many emotions at once and deserve space for all of them.

My approach is person-centered and draws from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. I don’t believe there is one formula that works for everyone. Together, we’ll figure out what is most useful for you and what will help you move toward the life you want to be living.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m married and a mom through adoption. I love reading, Michigan summers up north, and getting out on the water in a canoe or kayak. I’m also a lifelong learner—something I value both personally and professionally.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will listen carefully, be straightforward with you, and actively work alongside you, I’d be glad to meet you.
