Using a calm, practical, personal approach, I specialize in helping children, teens and adults who are struggling with expressing and communicating emotions, especially when feeling stuck in the cycle of anxiety and big feelings. We’ll work together to develop appropriate behaviors and learn positive coping skills to improve interactions across many life situations.
Sometimes you know something isn’t quite right, but you’re not sure what needs to change. Your child may be struggling at school, having a hard time with friends, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, or acting out more at home. Your teen or college student may be having difficulty navigating new expectations, relationships, or independence. Or you may be the one feeling stuck, stressed, or unsure of how to move forward.
I’ve spent more than 20 years helping children, teens, college students, adults, and parents work through challenges like these. My goal is to create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself, make sense of what’s happening, and begin finding practical ways forward.
Understanding What’s Going On—and What Can Help
I especially enjoy working with children and teens, and building a genuine connection with them is an important part of my work. I use play therapy to meet kids where they are, and I try to see the world from their perspective rather than simply telling them what they need to do differently.. When kids feel understood and respected, they’re often much more willing to talk, explore what’s going on, and try new ways of handling difficult situations.
I also work closely with parents. Parenting can be challenging even when things are going well—and when your child is struggling, it can be difficult to know how to respond. I can help you better understand what may be behind your child’s behavior, strengthen your parenting tools, and find strategies that feel realistic for your family.
My work with adults has the same collaborative, down-to-earth approach. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety or depression, navigating a life transition, struggling with relationships or family concerns, or simply feeling stuck, we’ll start with where you are. Together, we’ll look at what isn’t working, identify your strengths, and develop a clear plan for moving toward the changes you want to make.
My therapy style is relaxed, personalized, client-centered, and strengths-based.I draw upon several different approaches to create a unique approach for each person. I don’t believe therapy should look exactly the same for everyone. I want our work together to make sense for you.
I have particular experience helping clients with anxiety and depression, ADHD, anger management, grief and loss, life transitions, parenting challenges, family concerns, divorce and separation, domestic violence, school and academic difficulties, peer and social challenges, and the transition to college.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and my Master’s in Counseling from Oakland University, with additional specialty degrees in child and adolescent counseling and school counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Clinical Supervisor, and I also provide licensure supervision to new therapists.
